Death (poem)

Today’s prompt is “death”

I lay here and watch you take your last breath,
And wonder,
Where all the time went.
It seemed like yesterday when we first met.
Your youthful face now oldens with age.
Your bright eyes slowly empty as death calls your name.
I want one more day,
But,
That would be too much pain.
Your frail hand grasps onto mine in one last attempt at life,
Yet the slowness of your breathing tells us both to say goodbye.
I look into your eyes and watch your life flash,
Before a tear can leave mine,
I watch yours hollow out and die.
Your hand falls limp in mine,
No longer am I able to restrain a cry.

Today was a bit hard. My family had to say goodbye to our last rabbit. She was a very sweet but mean bunny. She loved to cuddle and bite and her favorite treat was spinach. She will be missed.
